Is one face enough? The Fantasy Art of Jasmine Becket-Griffith

Hi Everyone!

As you know, my website Fantasy Art and Portraits presently showcases the fantasy art of computer games, so there's a lot of art out there that doesn't fit there at the moment. I can, however, introduce it to you on this blog.

Jasmine Becket-Griffith

Today, I'd like to introduce the art of Jasmine Becket-Griffith. A selection from her Miscellaneous Art Prints Gallery is shown below. You don't need a full-size picture to note that in addition to the variety of genres, there is a sameness in the subject's face. (Which, "incidentally" looks rather like the artist herself).

It's been said that people who follow a character across many novels or television series (say, Sherlock Holmes) are looking for the character to do the same thing over and over again, just in a different setting. With Holmes, for example, we are thrilled and enlightened over and over in each episode by his fabulous deduction. The essential action of deduction is repeated in every book, so on one level, it's the same thing over and over.

Or take Cosmo Kramer of Friends. Every episode, we see his trademark hairstyle and twitchy personality, and we perhaps even look forward to seeing him exactly he same way every time.

Is it the same here? What are you looking at when you look at these pictures? (For full size and more pictures, visit the artist's website. Link to Flickr is mandatory per Flickr Terms of Service).

I love Jasmine Beckett-Griffith's art! I have a couple of her prints. The portrait of her is exaggerated to look more like her art, I think--she doesn't look as much like that in real life.

Anyway, your selection is hard to see because the pictures are shrunk down so much, but even from here I can see that Pearl Dragon Princess has a different face from Autumn Wolf Maiden, whose face is different from Princess with a Pink Flower's, whose face is different from Emerald Guardian's.

Hi Clare,
I've gotten some feedback about this post regarding the tinyness of the pictures and I might have to write a blog post about this issue... The screenshot of the various pics was merely to illustrate discussion and I hoped (as I always do) that readers would go to the artist's site to see more. I've amended the post somewhat to make the link to the artist's site more clear.

The link to the artist's site was embedded in her name. But by the time someone reads down to the picture, however, they'll probably be clicking on the picture, which goes to Flickr. I store my blog post pictures on my unlimited-space-account on Flickr and MUST link the picture back to Flickr according to Flickr Terms of Service.

Thank you for reading my blog! Do please check out the artist's site: http://www.strangeling.com/gallery.html
